Friendly reminder that our MVLAGS 2024 Spring Rec Softball registration is open through January 31st!

 

Key details below:

• All girls between the ages of 5-14 years old are welcome!*

• Practices start in early March and continue through late May.

• No experience is required, only a great attitude as we focus on skills and fun. Everyone plays!

• Registration fees are as follows: 6U: $200 / 8U: $275 / 10U-14U: $325**

**MVLAGS aims to support anyone who wants to play softball independent of ability to pay.

We offer not only an equipment lending program but partial and full scholarships for your player. We do not require any special forms or documentation for scholarships or equipment. You simply need to ask for them by emailing leadplayeragent@mvlags.org.

*New USA Softball Age Divisions starting Fall '23 - A bit confusing…...

Starting Fall 2023 (and continuing through Spring ‘24 and beyond), USA Softball has changed how age divisions will work. They shifted the age division cut-off from Jan 1st back to Sept 1st, which means some players may now be eligible to “stay down” to a younger age division if so desired. MVLAGS has always had a firm no “playing up” policy, but its doesn’t seem fair to require players who have Sept - Dec birthdays to stay down when many of their friends and previous “year” players move up. As such a recent Board meeting, it was approved to allow players to move with their current age year and friends if so desired. This is a little complicated and definitely creates some headaches for our league management, but we’ll figure it out. Below shows now default USA Softball age divisions:

6U - Sept ‘16 - Aug ‘18 birthdays (typically Kindergarten-1st graders)
8U - Sept ‘14 - Aug ‘16 birthdays (typically 2nd-3rd graders)
10U - Sept ‘12 - Aug ‘14 birthdays (typically 4th-5th graders)
12U - Sept ‘10 - Aug ‘12 birthdays (typically 6th--7th graders)
14U - Sept ‘08 - Aug ‘10 birthdays (typically 8th-9th graders)

E.g. A player with Sept 15th birthday who was an “older 10U” in ‘22-’23 has the option to stay down to play a 3rd year of 10U OR move to become a “younger 12U” starting this Fall
